Day-one patches are a reality of modern AAA gaming that we've had to learn to live with, but sometimes even that doesn't cut it, and when games like Cyberpunk 2077 need months of polish after going gold, you can expect some heavy downloads after popping in the discs.
With leaked copies of the game out and about, we now have an idea of just how big of a patch we'll need to download. Let's hope your data isn't capped!
Different download sizes have been reported depending on platform, ranging between 43.5GB and nearly 60GB. This isn't a 'real' Day-One patch since after installation you're still at version 1.0 of the game. It seems like all the polishing done on the game after it went gold resulted in this - with much of the installation not even being on the physical media.
For those curious Cyberpunk 2077 has a 43gb day one patch. pic.twitter.com/BKuWInTpJA

We've learned that the physical media installs 71 GB of content. Add to that this data update and then the eventual Day-One patch the size of which is unknown as of yet, and we might be looking at a storage requirement of around 150 GB. We shudder to think how much DLC and expansions will further bloat that!
Considering that this installation update and the patch together will very likely clock in at nearly 100 GB, many users with data caps on their internet plans might be put into a tough situation. This seems like more of an issue in the USA where ISPs offering limited plans is more common, compared to the obliquity of unlimited plans in Europe and other regions. However, the USA is one of the biggest markets, so we're curious to see how this will play out.
It’s installed!
PLEASE NOTE: Some are reporting the day one patch is up and it’s 56.3GB. It is NOT. That’s just the data disc download. Notice my info screen says I’m version 1.0 and there is no update when I check for one. #Cyberpunk2077 pic.twitter.com/dOuo24a91I

Luckily, there are preloading options available on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, so if you are prepared you can play the game the second it launches despite these huge downloads!
